Glass Houses
Part 1
The Greensboro Police Department has been the focus of dozens of lead stories during the past few months. The stories have been focused on allegations of discrimination and hidden black books.
However, only one part of the story has hit the stands. To fully understand this Greensboro Drama all of the players need to be examined.
One of the players in this drama that has been clear of any public critic is The City Attorney's Office. The head of that department is Linda Miles. In the fall of 2003, Project Homestead and thousands of unaccounted for federal money was the talk of the town. During this time the public began to question the leaders of Homestead as well as the Leaders of the city. A criminal investigation was launched.
This investigation was first to be done by the GPD. But, friction between the city attorney's office and the police department interrupted the investigation. The police were trying to conduct an investigation that the city attorney's office was trying to end. The two city departments had several confrontations that eventually led to the GPD turning the investigation over to the D.A.'s office.
The breaking point of the feud allegedly came when Linda Miles reportedly was attempting to make a deal with the N&R. It is rumored that the N&R had obtained a sensitive e mail from then Assistant City Manager Mitch Johnson's e mail account. In order to prevent the e mail from becoming public, Miles allegedly wanted to turn the findings of the GPD's incomplete investigation over to the N&R and end the investigation. The blame would all fall on the shoulders of Michael King, who was the operator of Homestead.
When the police heard of the plan the investigation was turned over to the D.A.'s office. This infuriated Miles as well as others who may have been involved. It appeared Miles was acting to protect any city official who may have acted inappropriately while dealing with Homestead. There was no love lost between David Wray and Linda Miles after this.
Because of this feud and the rumors of Miles attempting to obstruct the homestead investigation, it is impossible to trust that a Miles led team was able to conduct a fair and impartial investigation regarding David Wray.
The hiring of the third party investigation should also be questioned. It is very possible that the investigative team that was paid by the city would bring findings that the city wanted. Specifically the ending Miles wanted. To dismiss that possibility from consideration is silly knowing the history between the two.
It is easy to imagine Miles wanting revenge or Wray not being considered a "Team Player," after the Homestead investigation was turned over to the D.A. because the police felt the city leaders would prevent them from doing a full and impartial investigation.

Many people see Miles as a bumbling attorney that operates in a crude and unprofessional manner. She has used her position to cover up harassment cases within her own department. She was reportedly warned by the SBI to stop interfering with the Homestead investigation or be charged with obstruction of justice. Several people that deal with Miles know that she is not a rule follower unless the rule will benefit her.
