Look at the fleas on Fluffy! I know I aint no big time news reporter like the ones that got at the N&R but I really think Dioni failed to be transparent today. Dioni works for the N&R and she had a story in the paper today. "Greensboro police seek greater transparency in actions" was the title of Dioni's story and I am not sure how she missed mentioning that Captain James Hinson, who is the leader of the Biased-Based Policing Committee, is currently suing the city. Hinson's lawsuit claims that he was discriminated against because of his race by the city, Wray and Brady. Hinson dropped his lawsuit in 2009 and reported he dropped it to help the city heal. Of course, he only gave us one year of healing time before he sued again.
Dioni should have let the readers know that white officers that are accused of racial profiling will be judged in some way by a man that has habitually screamed racism. Please understand that none of the well publicized allegations made by James Hinson were sustained and most were unfounded.
Dioni also only named some of the people that were chosen for this committee and that was a concern as well. If she would have looked at the committee members carefully, she would have seen the name A.S. Wallace. Who is A.S. Wallace? Please review a city press release from 2007 below.
Three Greensboro Police Officers have been suspended with
pay as part of a criminal and administrative investigation into an alleged
assault. The three officers are all assigned to the Investigative Support
Division’s Tactical Special Enforcement Team. The officers have been identified
as:
Sergeant A. S. Wallace, Officer J. O,
LeGrand and Officer C. S. Stevens.
Certainly we can do better than Wallace when we are seeking guidance in the police department. Wallce has a lengthy list of disciplinary actions and guess what? He also is suing the city claiming he was discriminated against becuase of his race. Wallace has mishandled
evidence beyond belief, failed to file reports, recieved counseling for parking tickets and improper driving. He was
promoted to Sgt. by Bellamy and placed over TSET--the unit that handled dope,
guns, money and informants! That turned out not so good.
The title of Dioni's story could have easily been, "Controversial committee includes controversial officers." What leadership and knowledge does Wallace have to help benefit the city's racial problems? What officer is going to follow Wallace's lead? Who is going to accept Wallace's discipline?
Dioni would have been wise to ask Sociology professor Bob Davis about the issues of having Wallace and Hinson on a racial profiling committee given their background. However, if you ignore the background I guess you don't need to ask that question. I plan on asking a whole lot of people about Wallace and Hinson's involvement with this committee. Chief Miller has some splainin' to do!

Dioni, that wasn't very wise.

Welcome back, Ben!
It appears everyone is going their own way in our police department. As for the average citizen, the rules of engagement appear to change depending upon the badged individual you encounter. Greensboro is no better than a burning house.
They are going to come after you, Ben. This Chief Miller is not the easy going, gentle chiefs that you have dealt with. Miller is not Bellamy. Bellamy actually cared about you, alot. Miller does not. You are spot on! Be careful, it's not the same department any more. Ron Rogers will come after you. Miller will let him do it.
Ron Rogers is not going to do anything face on. Why cowardly wait until you retire to sue for discrimination? Why not face them now?
They cant fire one for fingering a girl in a van, slapping a girl friend, making false training sheets, stealing coolers from the fishing show, selling t shirts at A&T home coming, working off duty while on the job, shooting a gun outside a friend's house or sleeping with secretaries in the city manager's office. Miller is just as corrupt and ignorant as anyone we have ever have had.
