Beyond the shadow of any doubt, I acted like an idiot last night at the council meeting and I was wrong for doing so. I want to apologize to the entire council, staff and people in attendance for my behavior. I was trying to make a joke and it got out of hand quickly. I used the "Personnel Law" response when I was asked to state my name in protest. I did this because of my strong belief, which I share with Councilwoman Vaughan and others, that the city needs to simply follow the law and stop working so hard to limit the release of public information. However, there is no excuse for my actions and nothing good was accomplished. For that, I am deeply sorry.
I absolutely understand and treasure the speakers from the floor portion of the council meetings and have used the allotted three minutes in the past to get a lot of things done. Last night, I trampled on something that is precious and showed disrespect to the tradition of debate and discourse. I would like to thank Councilwoman Johnson and City Manager Denise Turner for attempting to answer my questions when they did not have too. My actions were inexcusable and I most definitely could have done better. Again, I was wrong.

Haven't seen the tape yet, but how bad could it have possibly been? Worse than drunk Burckley?
Either way, don't be too hard on yourself. If all council meetings were this fun, maybe more people would go to them, and actually vote when the time comes.
If the Citizens had the ability to turn off the mics for Council/Staff comments, we'd never hear their dung....just smell it. I think asking someone their name and address is one of the most ridiculous of procedures. I also think its funny that some are allowed to give business addresses instead of home. Its not like they send you letter of thanks for attending so it serves another purpose.
No need to apologize, Ben. For ever Tues. that they sit to lie, cheat and steal.....they should be the ones apologizing.
Mr. Clarey,
You are always so nice to me and I thank you for that. I screwed up. No need to compare it to anyone or anything. I was dead ass wrong and I shouldn't have done that. Thankfully, Greensboro is a forgiving town.
I agree with Brian, don't be too hard on yourself. You were making a point. It got made, even if it dinged your pride, which will heal.
Ben, God bless your willingness to be humble, admit a wrong and offer a heartfelt and public apology. What a beautiful example that is for your children and for all those who'll read what you've written. Well done. :)
Roch,
Thank you
Michele,
I fixed my spelling issues in this post. I also left my extra L outta your name. Thank you as well. I wont do it again.
:)
The "WOOOOOO!" was the bonus. I've thought about doing that in court, but I would end up in jail. (note the subtle hint).
Still, who can deny the call of the Nature Boy ?
To be the man, you gotta beat the man.
